Company description

General description  :   Pornic, jewel of the Côte de Jade, is the southernmost of Brittany's Atlantic ports.
Its ancient port is undoubtedly one of the town's most charming spots.
Overlooked by the medieval city and the Gilles de Rais chateau, it is brought to life by the twenty or so trawlers that take shelter here.

THE PORT:
• In use since ancient times, this port witnessed the departure for Newfoundland of numerous 'Terre-Neuvas' fishing boats, then life as pirate haunt, before welcoming a multitude of merchant ships from British, Dutch and Scandinavian ships.
Pornic, which opens out onto the vast and protective Baie de Bourgneuf, is an ideal site for sailing and regattas.
The dry harbour at Gourmalon can shelter 350 boats, and the deep water port at La Noëveillard can hold 919 boats on pontoons.
Staff at the dynamic CLUB NAUTIQUE DE PORNIC will be delighted to teach you the basics of sailing, catamaran, windsurfing, sea kayak or rowing.
If you want to explore the Baie de Bourgneuf and the Côte de Jade, you need look no further than 'LA PIMPANTE' or 'CORSAIRES DE RETZ'. Further information is available at the Tourist Office.

THE OLD TOWN:
• At the top of the cliffs, a stroll around the old town with all its medieval charms is an absolute must, especially on market days. The 'halles' where the market is held date from 1609. As you cast your gaze over the red and blue rooftops - a marriage of terracotta and slate—you'll see that the stairs connecting the upper towns to the fishing port create a particularly picturesque labyrinth. On the outskirts, along the roads leading to Sainte-Marie and Clion, it's a real pleasure to discover the megaliths, which testify to a strong and truly ancient human presence in Pornic. The Cairn des Mousseaux is a remarkable sight.

THE CUSTOMS OFFICERS' PATHWAY:
The customs officers' pathway allows you to explore 15 kilometres of the Pornic coastline, with its fifteen beaches and orange-tinted sandy creeks. Beautiful seaside villas dating from the 19th century compete with one another in a quest to be the most picturesque.

THE “CASINO DU MOLE”:
Pornic and its casinos – it's a long-standing affair. If you're in search of a moment of relaxation and pleasure, make the most of all the events on offer, and why not make a fortune? A visit to the Casino du Môle is recommended; you'll find it right by the fishing port and chateau.

There's no shortage of leisure activities in Pornic.
More than 50 restaurateurs have chosen to set up in Pornic. They offer French and foreign specialities. But in terms of food, the main event in Pornic is ocean-sourced – seafood, shellfish, and fish, their flavours coaxed out by the lively wines of the Pays de Retz - Muscadet and Grolleau.

• The CARNAVAL DE PRINTEMPS is the resort's first major event of the year: multicoloured floats, fanfares, and majorettes bring a fun ambiance to the streets.
Music festivals are next in the line-up: traditional, Celtic, classical – there's something to suit every taste, and for all ages. In July and August, at nightfall, the 'ESTIVALES' bring an amazing atmosphere to the quays and the môle, which are free of all traffic.
