The Tour de la Chaîne, in La Rochelle, has been restored and laid out for a permanent exhibition that allows visitors to discover the origins of the founding of Québec and the links that have strongly united Poitou-Charentes to the Belle Province for the last 400 years.
Created by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux and supported by numerous French and Québecois partners, the permanent exhibition at the Tour de la Chaîne in La Rochelle retraces with originality the story of the founding of Québec, which celebrates its 400th anniversary this year. Organized in three levels, the exhibition evokes this adventure starting with the arrival of the migrants at the port of La Rochelle, the departure point for the “New Worlds.” Then, the visitor is invited to discover and understand the conditions for crossing candidates for departure. A multimedia space and projected short films underline the links that unite Québec to the region of Poitou-Charentes.
