	Saumur Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel (Coco) was born on August 19, 1883 in Saumur, in the Western Loire region.
	Aubazine Upon the death of her mother, Coco’s father left her in an orphanage in Aubazine en Corrèze, in the Limousin region.
	Allier At 18 years old, Chanel left for Auvergne to learn the meticulous craft of sewing, spending time in Vichy and Varennes-sur-Allier to spend her vacations.
	Royallieu The heir of a rich family, Étienne Balsan set Coco up as his mistress at his estate near Compiègne in Picardy
	First Boutique in Paris In 1909, Coco debuted her first boutique on the Boulevard Malesherbes, in Balsan’s Paris bachelor apartment.
	Deauville In 1913, Coco opened a boutique carrying her entire name, “Gabriel Chanel,” on the rue Gontaut Biron, in the heart of Deauville, in Normandy.
	Biarritz Chanel opened her third boutique and her first couture house in 1915 in the seaside resort town of Biarritz.
