Martinique history

Christopher Columbus set foot on Martinique in 1502 while on his second journey to the New World. The island was then inhabited by the Carib Indians from The Venezuelan Orenoque Valley who had already chased the Arawaks, who also originated from fhe same Valley. To them, Martinique is known as Madinina, isle of flowers. Right in the heart of the Caribbean basin, Martinique is part of the group of islands known as the Lesser Antilles or the Windward Islands.
