Company description

General description  :   Christopher Columbus set foot on Martinique in 1502 while on his second journey to the New World. The island was then inhabited by the Carib Indians from The Venezuelan Orenoque Valley who had already chased theArawaks, who also originated from fhe same Valley. To them, Martinique is known as Madinina, isle of flowers.Right in the heart of the Caribbean basin, Martinique is part of the group of islands known as the Lesser Antilles or the Windward Islands. The eastern coastline is dominated by the Atlantic Ocean while the western coastline is lapped by the gentle waves of the Caribbean Sea. It is almost 4.200 miles fron France (approx. 8 hours by plane) and is 272 miles from the American continent. Its two nearest neighbours are Dominica to the north and Sainte Lucia to the south at a distance of 15 and 22 miles espectively.Martinique's surface area is 417 square miles, running 43 miles long and 17 miles large. Starting at the coastline the ground gradually rises towards the center and the north where the peaks of the Pitons du Carbet compete with the Pelée Mountain, the highest point on the island( 4,586 feet). The legendary tropical rain forest reigns over this entire area. The northern landscape gradually slopes down into the plain of Lamentin in the central region where a series of mornes or gently rolling hills start to form the island's southern countryside. The coastline in this area is scattered with several picturesque bays and inlets; Salines Beach at the extreme south seems to have jumped straight out of a postcard!Martinique'climate is relatively mild and the heat is never excessive. The average 78° F temparatures make Martinique the island of eternal summers.Martinique's population is composed of various peoples as a result of the intermingling of the many different ethnic groups that at on point or another settled here.
